The Ultimate EDI Transactions List

In Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), two business partners or organizations exchange critical information through a standards-based, computer-to-computer, automated setup. EDI uses standards-based transactions to exchange pre-formatted EDI documents. These EDI messages can contain everything from purchase orders and invoices to shipping notices, patient information, flight manifests and thousands more documents. Each EDI exchange follows a pre-set format, as defined by the various EDI standards.

In the ultimate list of EDI transactions, we've compiled the EDI transaction sets and EDI transaction codes for all of the most common EDI standards.

GS1 maintains the EANCOM standard, which is a subset of EDIFACT. EANCOM was originally developed primarily for retail but has grown into the most widely used EDIFACT subset and is found across a variety of industries, from construction to healthcare and even publishing.

The EDIFACT standard details a set of syntax rules to structure data into a specific format. The standard also defines a set of schemas for documents within these syntax rules used for communicating with other business partners. EDIFACT is used in a wide variety of countries and industries and is most popular in Europe where it originated. There are several derivations of the EDIFACT standard, such as EANCOM and Edig@s.

We have a full schema for EDIFACT available for download.
